People in Governance
Focused on how boards bring people together to help the charity succeed
This award is for charities that can demonstrate how all aspects of the Board’s work have supported outstanding results in delivering the charity’s mission and objectives. We are looking for evidence of:
- effective decision making,
- engagement of all trustees on the Board, and
- strong accountability and mutual challenge between the Board and the Executive.
What the judges are looking for
The judges will be looking for Boards that can clearly evidence an inclusive culture, where different views are harnessed, and where there is a clear sense of purpose.
In addition, judges are looking for evidence of processes that support effective governance overall, and where value is placed on training, development and performance of individual Trustees and the Board as a whole.
The entry must focus on the work of the main board, but if any sub-committees or other governance groups outside the main board made a contribution, you are welcome to tell us about that in your response.

This was a new category in 2024. However you can hear about last year’s winner, Magpie Dance.
